If you haven’t heard of it already, apparently Text Bombing is about to become the next big thing – read about it here . As a parent, an educator and also as someone who is regularly required to trouble shoot around the university and our associated clinical trusts on social media, this is a phenomena I don’t believe we can afford to ignore. Text Bombing is a new way for bullies to reach out via social media, to do what they have always done.

In the article in The Huffington Post, an Internet safety expert Sedgrid Lewis, who runs SpyParent.net, referred to text bombing as a “serious underground problem that is about to burst into the mainstream scene” and he urged parents to educate themselves about it – I think educators need to know what to look out for too. “Imagine getting 10,000 text messages to your phone telling you that you are an ugly slut and should die?” Lewis added, “That’s what some kids are doing to each other.”

Just FYI, social media is not all about warnings and doom and gloom you know, I don’t like to just post the negative stuff!  I discovered Text Bombing through someone I was chatting with on Twitter called @icod!  Twitter is such a great way to stay in touch with news and current issues.
